Task 23 We've only just begun...

I grew up in the era of the Carpenters. Beautiful song.
Thanks for initiating the whole bunch of us into this web 2.0 thingy.
At least, now I can say that compared to my kids I am a little ahead of what's out there. But Im sure they'll catch up in no time. Sigh.
Would appreciate updates of this thing and what's to come? possibly a web 3.0?
Libraries need to be in the forefront of the technology scene.

Love the concept and format of this programme. Found it motivating and being pushed out of my comfort zone to tackle what's already out there.

Task 22 Books are talking...in the end

Wonderful to see the wide array of books in eAudiobooks

Task 21 Podcasts

April fool's day joke? On Yahoo Podcasts site:
"Yahoo! apologizes deeply, but we will be closing down the Podcasts site on Oct. 31, 2007"
Navigated this and Podcast.net
Similar and user-friendly.
Fed "1 year daily audio bible podcast" to bloglines.
http://www.bloglines.com/myblogs

After You-Tube, the audio-only option seems less attractive. Yes, we are becoming more visual rather than auditory in our learning.

Task 20 You, too.

"Do you want to be a Librarian?" is so cute... talks about the awakening interest in literature of children.. if only we have more awakening of this sort?! I like You-tube. Enjoyed some of the songs on them "Find your wings" was dedicated to my Year 12 son on his graduation.

Couldn't resist this all-time favourite...

You-tube could also be successfully used for library educational purposes. Saw how effective it was earlier in Task 16 in the explanation of wikis.

Task 19 Yelp! They're all winners!

What a dizzying delectable array! Like going to a buffet.
I used to do pretty well (eating a buffet that is) and get my money's worth.
But not anymore as age catches up.
Feeling a bit like that with this wide spread (not my width but what's on the screen)

Had a few invitations to Facebook recently which also had the award for social networking in the winners' list.
I guess I am not comfortable that with the acceptance of the invitation comes the connecting of people (who are signed up)you know. I think that the relationships a person has with different people are different.
There is also the feeling of privacy being encroached as every movement (tag, superpoke) is documented.

Task 18 So that's where it came from...

Have found the staff tracking log very motivational, yah right, the pressure is ON esp. when my path hasn't blazed as red as the others! Have been wondering how you did the tracking log. Thanks for revealing the secret!

Zoho is the way to go. User-friendly. Intuitive.
Tried word-processing and spreadsheet functions.
In the past, have had to email documents that I need to access anywhere as the email account was portable. Not anymore with Zoho!
Zoho got it right with the resume templates. Great for applying jobs-on-the-go!
Couldn't resist doing a tracking log.

Task 17 There's sand for everyone

Esp. in my eyes. I just could not get my blog into the PCLC wiki.
Spent about 45 mins unsuccessfully figuring it. Figured that I 'll ask some of the experts at work. "PAUSE" on...
Got to work and in 45 sec, a colleague showed me.
So, it's there now.

Task 16 Where's wiki ?

In the past, it's a gigantic task to put something on the web without knowledge of the html thingy as well as bureaucratic procedures as to what should or should not be in the dedicated official site. Now, it's fair go for anyone who feels compelled enough to put up a site to serve a target audience. Thinking of the brave souls who are trying on a major exams,eg. VCE, in order for a better life but are struggling with the resources to help them achieve that end. Thinking of using wikis for homework help, like those used in the subject guides.

Task 15 In the Web

Web 2.0 is inevitable. Libraries is seen as at the fore-front of knowledge and technology. Thanks to this program, Learning 2.0, that we get ushered (whether whisked or dragged) into where others have already entered. We need to cater to a wide range of customers and there may be some that already asking in this area and we better know the raod signs to navigate in the second life.

Task 14 Oh-so-technical Technorati

Using "learning 2.0" under advanced search to look for blog posts yields 7019 results.
'Tag Search' yields 659 results and 'Blog Directory' yields 685 results.
Technorati- another opportunity for networking, sourcing of like-minded or opposite-minded people and their thoughts/ideas.
"Apologetics" yielded 3975 results and was glad to have found what I would not be able to find doing a google search.

On Technorati, surprise, surprise, the top blogs, top searches and top "favorited" (first time seeing this form of favour (root): favoured, adjective as verb?) blogs are mostly about computer technicalities. Mmm..not my cup of tea at the moment.

Task 13 Del-icio-us

Wonderful to be able to carry your favourites wherever you go. See the potential of a teacher/lecturer or librarian using this to access commonly used websites that help in his/her work to answer reference queries.
Not as user-friendly as Rollyo. Appears to need greater computer sophistication to make use of.

Task 12 Rolling on..

Innovated (hesitant to use the word 'create' as it connotes making something out of nothing, which I haven't) search roll "dayspring". I volunteer-teach CRE and so is constantly on the look-out for teaching materials each week. Rollyo is definitely v useful.

Task 11

Library thing is good as a record of books that you have enjoyed or wished you have read.

http://www.librarything.com/catalog/dayspring

Looks like it is a HUGE connecting tool to like-minded people - look at the groups out there!

Task 10 Image consciousness

Used LetterJames for the above. Long before the giant word Eternity sparkled with splendor as it was emblazoned across the Sydney Harbour Bridge, it was first written by the hand of one man.

This one-word message was written over 500,000 times on the footpaths of its suburbs and beyond in beautiful copperplate style. Wherever this word appeared it mystified some and fascinated others. The mystery was, "who wrote it?"

When the mystery man was finally discovered the Sydney press nicknamed him Mr Eternity, but his real name was Arthur Stace.

The ribbon generator is easy to use. So is the "doppelme" thingy to innovate my avatar. Step-by-step guides are welcoming to the frazzled soul.
Watched Matrix again and was intrigued at the layers one can 'peel' off from that movie to uncover the meanings 'this' world, 'that' world and 'the other' world one can have existence in?! Has no connection to my avatar out there but will see....

Task 9 Finding feeds

Being familiar with the RSS icons makes it easier to find feeds.
Did the Ebsco reference centre for some feeds. Chose a publication "Genetics" to feed as well as academic journal articles in the gene therapy area. Found it easy to add feeds to.
http://www.bloglines.com/myblogs

The Google search page is uncluttered and seems easy to use and add feeds to but had problems loading on each page. Technorati is a whole new area to explore. Figured that I will get more into it when I hear more good things about it. Going on to Task 10 due to time constraint.

Task 8 Desperate to be fed

Actually not really.
I think both physically and informationally, we have been more than satisfied.
Probably overfed and the law of diminishing returns sets in..
Still savour the serendipitous find...
nevertheless, it's still good to get all targets covered. The question is to find the time to get thru' them.

Task 7 Technology

Decided to buy into technology by buying my husband a GPS for his ... -year-young birthday recently.
Technology is good when there are no more u-turns to do with his new toy in the car now.
Technology is bad when I have to nag the kids to get off the computer for the umpteenth time.
It's addictive just as this learning 2.0 thing is!

The key is to control it/technolgy rather than it controlling us. It is a tool to help us enhance the work we are doing and the relationships we are building.

Task 6 more flickr fun

Decided to do a trading card...

Had a play with technology. Found maps to Springvale Library and Dandenong Library using wikimapia.

Some of the mashups are intriguing. Most are map related-primarily locational. Others are aesthetic in terms of the possibilities of patterns that could evolve with the permutations or rather mutations! Yet others, give the big picture with many small pictures to choose from.

Was keen to do a mashup with mappr but have not been able to access it over several days. url correct?

Week 1 #2 Lifelong Learning

Desperate...

Yes, I'm really late. Now and before.
I guess I was late in the whole technology scene. Was embarking on a home-based 13-year career sprouting 4 amazing young lives and of course tendering to the old?! (albeit handsome)one who partnered with me in this God-given task!

Out of the Seven and 1/2 Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learners, I resonate with:

Habit 3 – View problems as challenges

James 1:2-4 (The Message)

2-4Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don't try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way.

Habit 6 – Use technology to your advantage

Gotta keep up with the kids and tricks!
